Role: Residential Support Worker - Temporary - Newry
Job Overview
VANRATH are delighted to support one of NI's most recognisable public sector employers who are actively seeking a Residential Support Worker to join their team on an interim basis - The post holder will support multidisciplinary therapeutic interventions for children and young people with intellectual disabilities or complex needs, within a residential service based on best practice.
- Band 4
- 37.5 hours per week
- Temporary position, until September
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day care, supervision, and support to young people, building positive relationships and acting as a role model
- Maintain accurate and timely records in line with statutory and Trust requirements
- Liaise effectively with parents, carers, educational staff, and professionals to support each young person's development
- Promote a safe, clean, and supportive environment in accordance with Health & Safety and infection control policies
- Support young people with daily living tasks such as cooking, personal care, and household responsibilities
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training to support professional development
- Promote community involvement and accompany young people on outings, appointments, and activities
- Handle Trust funds responsibly, ensuring proper recording and safe custody of monies
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a caring role with children, young people, or young adults with Intellectual Disabilities in community, acute, or residential settings
- 4 GCSEs (Grades A-C) including English, or equivalent qualifications
- Registered with NISCC (Social Care Register) or eligible for registration prior to appointment
- Ability to work flexibly, including weekends
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments considered for applicants with a disability)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to respond sensitively to service users' needs
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable Criteria:
- NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People
- Experience working therapeutically with young people
