Role Overview

Reporting directly to senior management, the Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust safety culture across multiple business units. This role plays a vital part in ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering continuous improvement in safety and environmental practices across manufacturing, recycling, and site-based operations.


Responsibilities

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM 2015, and other relevant UK legislation

  • Develop and manage Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)

  • Monitor activities involving machinery, hazardous substances, and installations

  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, implement corrective actions

Training and Staff Engagement

  • Deliver tailored health and safety training across departments

  • Conduct toolbox talks and operational briefings

  • Increase awareness of fire safety, dust control, manual handling, and machinery use

Environmental Responsibility

  • Oversee waste segregation, disposal, and recycling practices

  • Support sustainability efforts and energy reduction initiatives

  • Monitor air quality and emissions in joinery facilities and ensure control measures are in place

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive health, safety, and environmental documentation

  • Lead internal audits and inspections at manufacturing sites, recycling centres, and project locations

  • Produce regular reports and recommendations for continuous improvement


What We're Looking For

  • Experience in a health and safety leadership role, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or recycling

  • Strong working knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental regulations

  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and engage staff at all levels

  • Proven track record of managing safety in operational environments involving machinery and materials

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate is essential

  • Experience with COSHH, ISO standards, and environmental controls is highly desirable
