Vanrath are delighted to be supporting the recruitment of a Corporate Communications Manager for a large public sector body in Ballymena on a temporary maternity cover basis.

Purpose of the role
The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Creation and delivery of an internal communications programme.
  • Preparation of briefing papers to include corporate responses to Ministerial, Assembly and DfE queries.


What you'll do

  • To produce an Annual Report of the highest quality and to undertake editorial responsibility for other corporate publications and supporting literature, newsletters, web initiatives and communications to staff and external audiences.
  • Be responsible annual Internal Communications Programme (ICP), including delivery mechanisms to assess its effectiveness.
  • Liaise with senior colleagues ensuring a consistent approach to content, tone and style for communication across all channels.
  • To develop and oversee a protocol for authorised statements.
  • To draft speeches and other addresses for the Principal and senior managers.
  • Read and assess relevant policy-related publications to ensure appropriate alignment, dissemination and follow up with senior staff as required.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership and HR teams to drive employee engagement
  • Be capable of building trust and confidence with internal stakeholders
  • Lead on cross College projects as required.


About you
Essential:
Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (typically 3-5+ years) in corporate communications, media relations, or public affairs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of branding, messaging, and media strategies.
  • Ability to manage media inquiries and develop press materials (e.g., press releases, statements).
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools, including social media platforms, CMS, and email marketing software.
  • Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.


Desirable Criteria

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in the education or nonprofit sector, particularly within a college or university environment.
  • Familiarity with crisis communication strategies and reputation management.
  • Design or video production skills, or familiarity with tools like Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder engagement practices, especially with alumni, donors, and corporate partners.
  • Understanding of internal communications best practices.
  • Experience working with senior leadership and contributing to executive messaging.
