Biomedical Scientist - Cellular Pathology

VANRATH are currently recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist based in Altnagelvin. Full Time hours (Mon - Fri 0845-1700. Salary: £37,338 - £44,962.


SUMMARY:

The post-holder will work with the Clinical Lead and BMS Service Manager and Laboratory team to ensure the provision of a high quality, cost effective and efficient laboratory service in Cellular Pathology which will meet the standards of UKAS accreditation. The Cellular Pathology service provides Histopathology, Diagnostic Cytology, Andrology and mortuary services.



KEY DUTIES:

  • The post holder will be expected to comply with Trust and Laboratory policies and procedures to ensure full UKAS Accreditation is maintained.
  • Understand the principles of all procedures carried out in the Laboratory and perform routine analytical procedures relevant to the work undertaken.
  • Maintenance/development of core practical skills in other laboratory disciplines such as are relevant to the delivery of a Cellular Pathology laboratory service as directed by the BMS Service Manager and Clinical Lead.
  • Performance of special assignments or relevant duties as indicated or approved by Clinical Lead and BMS Service Manager
  • Ensure accuracy and clarity of all documentation concerned with sample examination and reporting.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and other applicable documentation for all sections/work areas.
  • Conform to statutory Health and Safety procedures.
  • Ensure that an efficient, effective and documented quality management system is maintained.
  • Supervise and support Band 5 BMS staff in training for specialist portfolio
  • Advise relevant BMS Team Managers on stock levels of reagents and consumables as per in-house inventory management policies.
  • Attendance at refresher and management courses; keeping abreast of latest developments in Journals etc.; contributing to and participation in in-service training programmes and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • An extended working day is a requirement of the service. The post-holder is expected to cooperate and participate in the provision of this.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Completed IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology AND
  • 1 years experience in Cellular Pathology (post HCPC) AND
  • Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.


SALARY:
£37,338 - £44,962 - as per Band 6 salary scale (plus enhanced annual leave, pension, staff benefits)
