Biomedical Scientist - Specialist in Microbiology

VANRATH are currently recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist with Specialist Portfolio in Microbiology, based in Belfast. Full Time Mon - Fri 0845-1700. Salary: £37,338 - £44,962.


JOB SUMMARY:


To provide a support service to users of the Microbiology Laboratory. The post holder will be required to undertake a range of analysis, interpret the results produced and communicate the relevant information to clinicians.

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Perform the basic laboratory work while corresponding to the training and qualifications of a Registered BMS and may be located in any of the laboratory areas within the Department.
  • Carry out appropriate procedures, including those requiring the exercise of independent judgement and initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Provide personal and direct supervision for trainees and other supportive personnel within the Belfast Trust Laboratories.
  • Assist in research projects, where necessary, and to be involved in the development of new procedures and techniques.
  • Recognise and accept safety regulations, guidelines and policy.
  • Demonstrate and maintain satisfactory progress in both the academic and the 'in-service' training programmes.
  • Carry out any other duties not specified above but which might be reasonably expected of a Biomedical Scientist Grade (pay band 5/ 6).
  • Trainees will follow and pass the course of training as laid down by the Health and care Professions Council (HCPC) leading to state registration.
  • Participate in a 24 hr service which will include extended working day, overnight, weekend and Public holidays work as part of the conditioned 37.5 hour week.
  • Participate in Continuous Professional Development in line with KSF and work towards gaining further knowledge through certificate level training and short courses. This will be done through Personal Contribution Plan & Annual Staff Development review.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Completed IBMS Specialist Diploma in Microbiology AND
  • 1 years experience in Microbiology (post HCPC registration) AND
  • Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist


SALARY:
£37,338 - £44,962 - as per Band 6 salary scale (plus enhanced annual leave, pension, staff benefits)
