Meet the IT Recruitment Team: David Kernohan

​​Get to know our new Senior IT Recruitment Consultant David Kernohan who specialises in cyber security roles across the Northern Ireland market

Today, we sat down with our one of our newest team members David Kernohan so you can find out more about him and how he can help with your next career move!

​📲 What did you do before working in recruitment?

Before working in recruitment, I gained experience in both procurement and sales. I decided to transition to the field of recruitment where I could utilise my skills to help people find their ideal job.

🔐 What motivated you to pursue a career in IT recruitment and which specific area and roles do you specialise in now?

I was offered a great opportunity at VANRATH and the tech sector has always interested me since I worked as an IT Procurement Analyst a few years ago.

🌐 What do you enjoy most about working in the IT recruitment industry?

Speaking to people daily. Finding out about market trends in recruitment itself but also in cyber security itself as a space. It’s very fluid and ever-changing which makes it really interesting.

👩‍💻 What are your favourite aspects of the IT field, and how do you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies?

Globalisation, AI, Automation and Cyber Security. I stay up to date with current affairs which always includes tech-related information given the advances in the tech industry over the years.

🤝 Why should clients and candidates each consider working with a recruitment consultant for their next role?

It takes the stress away from endless job hunting and applications. A recruitment consultant will only recommend you for applicable roles and negotiate on your behalf in terms of remuneration and other benefits etc. Recruiters have strong relationships with clients and can often achieve a better result for the candidate. They will do all the back and forth as they are better positioned to negotiate on your behalf given the rapport they have with companies/clients.

💥 What strategies do you use to source and attract top talent?

I use my experience having worked across various sectors. This means I have an extensive network both online and in life in general since my university days. As well as this, I use the normal strategies such as LinkedIn, networking events as well as our world-class CRM database here at VANRATH.

🏖️ What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of work?

Spending time with my wife and kids, trips to the beaches near where we live, and I also enjoy playing sports e.g. snooker as well as watching snooker, rugby and football.

🎱 Can you share with us a fun fact or unique skill that not many people know about you?

I competed for Northern Ireland playing pool in the Under 23 European Championships.
