Waste Operative - Public sector

About the Role:

I am excited to present a fantastic opportunity for a Waste Resource Management Operative on behalf of our public sector client. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental sustainability and committed to maintaining a clean and safe community.

  • Waste Collection: Efficiently collect domestic and commercial refuse and recyclable materials, ensuring containers are safely returned.
  • Street Cleansing: Maintain cleanliness of footpaths, gutters, and public spaces through various methods including manual sweeping and pedestrian-operated sweepers.
  • Litter Management: Empty litter bins, remove illegally dumped materials, and clear animal carcasses from public areas.
  • Recycling Support: Assist the public at Household Recycling Centres, promote the use of recycling facilities, and ensure site cleanliness.
  • Vehicle and Equipment Reporting: Communicate any mechanical or electrical faults in vehicles and maintain accurate records.
  • Adverse Weather Duties: Perform alternative tasks such as gritting and snow clearance during inclement weather.
  • Communication Delivery: Distribute Council communications, such as leaflets and flyers, as needed.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Basic Literacy: Ability to read instructions and communications.
  • Valid Driving Licence: Essential for operational duties.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months in a waste management environment.
  • Skills: Flexibility, good organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and basic computer literacy.
  • Health and Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with safety procedures, including manual handling.
  • Desirable:
    • 12 months of experience in waste management.
    • Knowledge of traffic management and waste recycling issues.
