Client:
Our client is a leading Main Contractor based in Magherafelt, Northern Ireland. The business work on a diverse range of projects across various sectors including commercial, residential, hotel and leisure. Projects cover new build, refurbishment, fitouts and restoration. They have a great reputation for delivering high quality projects with exceptional attention to detail.
Overview of Role:
To lead the commercial management of all projects, providing strategic input to procurement, managing cashflow and ensuring contractual timelines are met. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the development of junior staff in their department. They will also provide strategic and cost input into large scale tenders, working alongside the directors to achieve the long-term goals of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans and forecasts
- Draft, review and negotiate subcontractors
- Manage change control processes and variations
- Evaluate bids and negotiate terms with suppliers and subcontractors
- Manage and report on contract cashflow and work in progress
- Supervise, mentor and encourage surveying staff in their personal professional development
- Work closely with senior operations team to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitability
- Meet regularly with clients developing relationships and enduring effective resolution of disputes
- Promote best practices and continuous improvement.
The Ideal Person:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts JCT D/B
- Outstanding commercial awareness
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Ideally have experience in managing and mentoring junior staff
- Experience working on various projects across multiple sectors
- Happy to travel and stay away 1 or 2 days every fortnight
