The Role

Reporting into the Strategic Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer will oversee both strategic and tactical purchasing across a broad range of suppliers and commodities, ensuring materials and services are delivered on time, to specification, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement of key mechanical, electrical, and composite components to support engineering and production programmes.
  • Strengthen supplier relationships, tracking performance and driving improvements in cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Lead contract negotiations, prepare agreements, and ensure procurement practices align with wider business goals.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies to optimise spend and manage critical commodity groups.
  • Support improvements to ERP systems and identify areas to enhance supply chain efficiency.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of buyers, carrying out regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and production teams to ensure purchasing activities align with project timelines.
  • Assist with departmental KPIs, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards around quality, safety, and ethical sourcing.

  • Background in purchasing complex, multi-component or systems-based products.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop small teams in a fast-paced setting.

Desirable Criteria:

  • CIPS membership or similar professional accreditation.
  • Experience procuring mechanical or composite engineering components.
  • ERP knowledge and experience in process and data-driven improvements.

  • Company pension scheme
  • Cycle to Work and Electric Vehicle schemes
  • 22 days annual leave + 13 bank/public holidays (increasing with service)
