About you

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • Excellent Excel and systems experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to deli with senior stakeholders

What you'll do

  • Lead the preparation of Annual Financial Statements, Whole of Government Accounts, and other statutory returns in line with public sector regulations and departmental guidance.

  • Provide expert advice on regulatory and technical financial matters to ensure compliance with legislation, recommended accounting practices, and taxation requirements.

  • Act as primary liaison with External Auditors, ensuring timely preparation of audit schedules and follow-up on recommendations.

  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, ensuring appropriate drawdown of monthly funding.

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of the General Ledger, including reconciliations (bank, balance sheet, sales/purchase ledgers), VAT compliance, and capital claims.

  • Maintain and manage Fixed Asset and Deferred Capital Grant records.

  • Support the preparation of financial forecasts and three-year financial plans.

  • Develop and review financial systems, policies, and procedures to maintain high internal control standards and ensure compliance with Department for the Economy guidance.

  • Lead improvements in finance operations through system optimisation, staff training, and process enhancements.

  • Ensure team members have access to up-to-date procedures and guidance and provide operational support as needed.

  • Carry out any additional duties as assigned by senior finance leadership.
