Production Planning Specialist
Location: Belfast
Contract: Permanent | Full-time
An established manufacturing organisation based in Belfast is seeking a Production Planning Specialist to support the delivery of efficient, on-time production. This is a key role within the operations team, responsible for turning supply plans into achievable daily and weekly production schedules while balancing customer demand, capacity, and available resources.
You'll work closely with supply planning, production supervisors, and wider operations to ensure materials, labour, and equipment are aligned to meet production targets and quality standards.
The Role
As Production Planning Specialist, you will:
- Develop and maintain detailed production schedules to maximise the effective use of resources
- Translate monthly supply plans into clear daily and weekly production plans
- Allocate work orders to production lines in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner
- Monitor production activity and adjust schedules to manage backlogs, design changes, or material and labour shortages
- Prepare and release work orders and purchase requests in line with production plans
- Estimate labour, tooling, and equipment requirements to meet production demands
- Evaluate production specifications and plant capacity to calculate machine and operator loading
- Analyse production data to ensure material flow meets operational requirements
- Support a safe, positive working environment across production areas
- Apply root cause and structured problem-solving methods to address non-conforming processes
- Undertake additional duties as required by management
The Person
You will ideally have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 3-5 years' experience in production planning, scheduling, or a similar manufacturing operations role
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing capacity planning, resource utilisation, and material flow
- Experience working closely with supply planning and production teams
- Proficiency in ERP and production planning systems
- Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
