Production Manager - Machine Shop
Location: Dungannon
Hours: 39.75 per week (Mon-Thurs 8:00-5:00, Fri 8:00-2:15)
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
A leading manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Production Area Manager to join their management team in Dungannon. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated leader with strong manufacturing, people-management, and continuous-improvement experience to take ownership of production performance within a high-volume machine shop environment.
The Role
As Production Area Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day production operations, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets are consistently achieved. You will lead and coach supervisors, group leaders, and team members while driving best practice through lean manufacturing principles and structured problem-solving.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, change-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental standards across all production areas.
- Lead, coach, and support production supervisors, group leaders, and machine shop teams.
- Manage production flow and scheduling to ensure on-time delivery through level pull systems.
- Maintain and improve lean manufacturing processes, visual management, and standardised work.
- Control production costs and support budget-setting activities.
- Achieve and maintain zero-defect quality standards for internal and external customers.
- Manage SWIP and inventory through regular cycle checks and reporting.
- Support equipment and machinery maintenance through TPM practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives including flow, takt adherence, JIT, problem-solving, and PFEP/Kanban.
- Monitor performance, report progress, and take corrective action where required.
- Support wider business change and participate in cross-functional initiatives.
About You - Essential Experience
- Previous experience in production supervision or management within a manufacturing setting.
- Background in manufacturing engineering or manufacturing systems.
- Practical understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong people-management and leadership capability.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of inventory control, continuous improvement, takt time and production flow.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Confident using IT systems, ideally including MRP.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
