Mechanical Engineering Technician (Public Sector)

VANRATH are searching for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician for their client, a large Public Sector organisation based in Belfast to join their Central Services team on a 6 month contract with the likelihood of being extended.

Responsibilities

  • To work as a Mechanical Engineering technician as part of the Fleet Mechanical & Engineering teams within the three regional workshops to ensure service delivery of all specialist operational equipment and vehicles is met at all times.
  • The Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) is responsible for the Inspection, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repair, bodywork, Coach building and modification to all vehicles and equipment within the fleet of Vehicles and Operational equipment. The MET will be expected to work across differing trade disciplines in carrying out their role.
  • To participate in the Regional Standby Rota to facilitate an effective support network to ensure operational resilience is maintained out of hours. This involves carrying out the emergency repair of vehicles and equipment and vehicle recovery for operational incidents on a 24/7 basis.



The Ideal Person

  • Possess a certified level 3 trade qualification as depicted in the NQF in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.

And

  • Have at least two years' post apprentice experience working in a trade role in their area of expertise which includes heavy vehicle.
  • Must demonstrate experience in plant mechanics and light vehicle repair.
  • Level 3 qualification as depicted in the NQF in vehicle system repair and replacement in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles.
  • Qualified to safely install, maintain and fault find both 240v and 110v electrical systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Must demonstrate excellent record keeping of computerised repair and inspection data.
  • Competent in the use of IT software and computer systems. Competent in the use of a Management Information System (MIS) for record keeping on repair data.
  • Possess a current UK C Class driving licence.

Additional requirements:

  • Applicant must participate in the Regional Engineering on call Rota which involves working antisocial hours including weekends and late nights in order to support emergency response operations.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a physically demanding environment while following health and safety working practices.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Current UK category B+E licence.
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations LOLER certified.
  • Hold relevant welding certificates.
  • Possess a Counter Balance and Reach & Tier forklift truck licence.
  • Experience and knowledge in pumping gear, coachwork, electrics, hydraulics, mechanical.


Remuneration
c£36,000 per annum + benefits.
