Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Belfast
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: Highly Competitive + Excellent Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a pioneering engineering organisation at the forefront of zero-emission propulsion systems and advanced technology.

This is a hands-on role working on cutting-edge projects that are redefining the future of clean propulsion. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team designing and integrating high-performance mechanical systems for innovative products and next-generation technology platforms.

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Propulsion, the Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, and integration of advanced propulsion systems and components. You will contribute from concept through to manufacture, working on complex electro-mechanical assemblies that incorporate energy storage, alternative fuels, and power delivery systems.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, supporting world-leading technology that is driving progress in sustainable engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (CATIA or equivalent).
  • Support system design and integration activities for propulsion and energy solutions.
  • Specify materials, finishes, and tolerances suitable for operation in demanding marine environments.
  • Create detailed technical drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Apply first principles engineering to develop and validate mechanical designs.
  • Optimise designs for performance, weight, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct design reviews, testing, and validation to ensure quality and compliance with certification standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, and testing teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Drive continuous improvement through design innovation and new technology adoption.

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive, Aerospace, or a related discipline (2:1 or above), or HND with 3+ years' engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a motorsport, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of precision mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Electric Drive Units (EDU), engines, or high-performance mechanical systems is desirable.
  • Skilled in 3D CAD (CATIA V5/V6 preferred).
  • Knowledge of testing, validation, and prototype development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to take designs from concept to production.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational abilities.
  • Capable of thriving in a dynamic, innovative engineering environment.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Private medical insurance and health cashback plan
  • Group income protection and life insurance (3× salary)
  • Stakeholder pension scheme
  • Cycle to Work and Electric Vehicle schemes
  • Annual travel card loan scheme
  • 22 days annual leave plus 13 public/bank holidays (increasing with service)
  • Regular social events and wellbeing initiatives
  • Exciting career growth opportunities in a cutting-edge technology environment

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a world-class engineering team developing the next generation of zero-emission propulsion systems. If you're ready to push the boundaries of innovation and play a key role in a transformative industry, we'd love to hear from you.
