A leading engineering organisation is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding team in Limavady. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative, technology-driven projects within the power and water sectors, contributing to the design and development of bespoke systems used across critical infrastructure.

The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies for advanced switchgear systems. You will work closely with electrical and manufacturing engineers to ensure robust, efficient, and cost-effective design solutions. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to major engineering projects, from concept through to manufacture and testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for switchgear products, including enclosures, busbars, and support structures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet design requirements and project deadlines.
  • Create 3D models and detailed technical drawings using CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
  • Conduct mechanical analysis (stress, thermal, and vibration) to ensure durability and reliability.
  • Select materials and manufacturing processes suitable for performance, cost, and scalability.
  • Produce accurate engineering documentation, including bills of materials, design specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and design validation.
  • Participate in design reviews, incorporating feedback and optimising designs for manufacturability.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure compliance with relevant standards and customer requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards (ANSI, IEEE, IEC) and emerging technologies.

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally within the switchgear, electrical, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, and design for manufacturability principles.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using simulation tools for mechanical performance evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Organised and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Benefits

  • Early finish Fridays (12pm)
  • Life Assurance - 3× annual salary
  • Private Medical Cover (option to include family)
  • 30 days paid annual leave
  • Workplace Pension Scheme (5% employer contribution)
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Supportive and rewarding workplace culture
