Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Belfast
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: Excellent Package + Exceptional Benefits

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join a cutting-edge engineering organisation leading the way in zero-emission propulsion and next-generation clean technology.
In this highly technical, hands-on role, you'll work on innovative projects that are shaping the future of sustainable propulsion systems. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the design and integration of high-performance mechanical solutions for advanced products and technology platforms.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Propulsion, the Mechanical Design Engineer will support the full lifecycle of advanced propulsion systems-from concept development and modelling through to testing, validation, and production. You'll work on sophisticated electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating energy storage, power distribution, and alternative fuel technologies.
This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic, fast-growing business, contributing to world-leading engineering that is accelerating the shift to clean, sustainable propulsion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and engineer precision mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (CATIA or similar).

  • Contribute to system-level design and integration for propulsion and energy platforms.

  • Select materials, surface treatments, and tolerances appropriate for harsh marine or industrial environments.

  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and documentation for manufacture.

  • Apply first-principles mechanical engineering to validate and refine design concepts.

  • Optimise designs for weight, performance, durability, and manufacturability.

  • Participate in design reviews, testing, and validation activities to meet quality and certification requirements.

  • Work closely with electrical, testing, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration.

  • Support continuous improvement by introducing new tools, technologies, and design methods.

About You

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Automotive, or related discipline (2:1 or above), or HND with significant industry experience.

  • At least 3 years' experience in motorsport, aerospace, or advanced precision manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA V5/V6 preferred).

  • Experience with prototype development, testing, or validation activities.

  • Ability to take ideas from concept through to production-ready design.

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.

  • Able to perform in a fast-moving, technically challenging environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience with EDUs, engines, or complex mechanical systems.

What's on Offer

  • Highly competitive salary + benefits

  • Private healthcare & health cashback scheme

  • Income protection and 3× salary life assurance

  • Company pension

  • Cycle to Work & Electric Vehicle schemes

  • Annual travel card loan

  • 22 days annual leave + 13 bank/public holidays (increases with service)

  • Regular social and wellbeing events

  • Clear career progression in an innovative, future-focused engineering environment

This is a rare chance to join a world-class engineering team developing next-generation clean propulsion systems. If you're passionate about innovation and want to be part of a transformative sector, we'd love to hear from you.
