Job description

VANRATH are delighted to be supporting a Public Sector employer who are actively seeking a Legal Advisor to join their team in Belfast.

This is a temporary contract for an initial period of 6 months.

The team handles a wide range of legal matters, from high-level investigations to significant litigation cases, providing trusted legal support to decision-makers and stakeholders.

About you

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister licensed (or eligible to be licensed) to practise in Northern Ireland

  • Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) advising on complex legal issues

  • Proven experience interpreting legislation and applying legal principles in practice

  • Strong communication skills - able to provide clear, confident advice to clients and colleagues

  • At least 3 years' PQE managing litigation within the Northern Ireland court system

  • Experience representing clients in one or more of the following areas:

  • Judicial review proceedings

  • Coroner's inquests

  • Public inquiries

  • Criminal proceedings

What you'll do

  • Provide high-quality legal advice, both orally and in writing, on complex legal and procedural issues

  • Interpret and apply legislation, statutory instruments, and case law to provide accurate, practical advice

  • Manage and represent cases through all stages of litigation, including strategy, submissions, and evidence preparation

  • Lead and manage legal work across judicial reviews, inquests, public inquiries, and criminal proceedings

  • Represent the organisation in court and liaise with external counsel where appropriate

  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the legal team

  • Ensure all legal work meets professional, ethical, and regulatory standards
