Job Title: Legal Advisor

Location: Newry
Rate of Pay: £21.56 per hour
Contract Duration: 4 months, with possible extension

About the Role:

VANRATH is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Advisor to join our client's team in Newry. This is a fantastic opportunity for a legal professional to provide specialist advice and guidance on a variety of legal matters, including land acquisition, disposal, contractual issues, and legislative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional legal advice to Council Officers and elected members.
  • Draft, issue, monitor, and advise on legal documentation such as leases, licenses, contracts, tender documents, and funding agreements.
  • Safeguard the Council's land and property portfolio, managing adverse possession claims and possessory title applications.
  • Conduct legal research and maintain an index of useful cases and drafts.
  • Negotiate, draft, and settle contract documents and agreements.
  • Monitor the provision of legal services and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
  • Support asset management, including the transfer, letting, acquisition, and disposal of Council land and property assets.
  • Ensure adherence to Council policies, procedures, and statutory obligations.


Essential Criteria:

  • A degree in Law or a related legal qualification.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in conveyancing and contract law.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Valid driving license and access to transport.
  • Ability to work outside normal office hours.


Desirable Criteria:

  • Professional qualification to practice as a solicitor.
  • 2 years of experience in conveyancing and contract law.
  • Experience in providing legal advice in a public sector environment.
  • Experience in the analysis and interpretation of maps and site layout drawings.
