Job description

VANRATH are partnering with a well-established engineering and industrial solutions provider to recruit a Junior Sales Engineer to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a technical or engineering background who enjoys combining product knowledge with a customer-facing sales role.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting both customers and the external sales team by providing product advice, preparing quotations and ensuring enquiries are handled efficiently. The position sits within the internal commercial team and acts as a key link between customers, suppliers and several internal departments.

This is a fully office-based position.

The Role

The Sales Engineer will provide technical and commercial assistance across a range of product enquiries while helping maintain strong relationships with customers and supporting the wider sales function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing product selection advice and technical guidance to customers and colleagues
  • Assisting external sales engineers with quotations, product specifications and follow-up activity
  • Preparing accurate quotations for both new and existing customers
  • Processing sales orders through internal systems and ensuring all information is recorded correctly
  • Handling inbound enquiries from customers via phone, email and trade counter
  • Supporting the development and day-to-day running of the company's trade counter
  • Liaising with suppliers to source parts, equipment and materials when required
  • Working closely with internal departments such as service, contracts, accounts and stores to ensure orders progress smoothly
  • Maintaining documentation including quotations, purchase orders, delivery notes and invoices
  • Keeping the Sales Manager updated on workload, order progress and customer requirements
  • Participating in ongoing product training to maintain technical knowledge
  • Supporting wider team activities and completing additional tasks when required by management
  • Working in line with company policies including health, safety and environmental standards

The Ideal Candidate

The role would suit someone with experience in a technical sales, engineering support or internal sales environment.

Criteria:

  • Previous experience in an internal sales, sales support or technical customer service role (plumbers merchant ideal)
  • Some mechanical, engineering or hydraulics knowledge would be advantageous
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly
  • Organised approach with the ability to manage several enquiries and tasks simultaneously
  • Customer-focused mindset with a professional and proactive attitude
  • Comfortable working as part of a team within a busy office environment
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office; experience with CRM or ERP systems would be beneficial
