Investigating Officer

Location: Belfast
Salary: £39,862 per annum
Contract: Initial 3 months (possibility of extension)

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an Investigating Officer to join a busy public sector team in Belfast. The successful candidate will play a key role in the impartial assessment and investigation of complaints, ensuring fair and evidence-based outcomes. The role will involve managing a varied caseload, undertaking thorough analysis, conducting interviews, and preparing detailed written reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and analyse complaints in line with legislative and procedural frameworks.
  • Identify key issues and make proportionate enquiries to gather relevant information.
  • Analyse evidence and draft clear, well-reasoned reports and recommendations.
  • Carry out interviews with relevant parties and witnesses.
  • Communicate effectively with service users, public bodies, and stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritise caseloads to meet performance standards and deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate case management records and high-quality written outputs.

Candidate Criteria


Essential:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with 2+ years' relevant experience in evidence-based analysis and reporting; OR 4+ years' relevant experience without a degree.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use sound judgement to support decisions.
  • Experience interpreting legislation, codes, or procedural requirements.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise reports.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage complex caseloads to tight deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to handle robust challenge while demonstrating empathy.
  • Experience conducting interviews to gather information.


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of investigative practices and approaches.
  • Experience using research techniques.
