Interim Corporate Equality Officer

VANRATH, Northern Ireland's leading specialist recruitment agency, is thrilled to partner with a large public sector organisation to recruit an experienced and passionate Corporate Equality Officer. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in promoting equality and human rights within the organisation.
About the Role
As the Corporate Equality Officer, you will support the Assistant Director of Human Resources in developing and implementing key equality and human rights programs. You will ensure compliance with statutory duties under the Northern Ireland Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998, and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended). This role is essential in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Equality Scheme Management: Oversee and monitor the implementation of the Equality Scheme and Disability Action Plan.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop systems of engagement with key stakeholders, including service users, and establish proactive working relationships.
- Mainstreaming Equality: Integrate equality considerations within strategic planning and decision-making processes.
- Policy and Assessment: Assist in policy screening and conduct Equality Impact Assessments.
- Research and Benchmarking: Conduct benchmarking and research activities to support equality initiatives.
- Public Consultation: Facilitate public consultations, including stakeholder focus groups and public meetings.
- Training and Guidance: Develop and deliver training on Equality and Human Rights and provide advice to managers on compliance with equality legislation.
- Reporting: Produce comprehensive management reports, including statutory progress reports.
- Regional Work: Represent the organisation in regional workgroups related to Equality and Human Rights.
- Performance Management: Manage the Equality Steering Group's work and implement a performance management framework.
Essential Criteria
- Education and Experience:
- A university degree or equivalent professional qualification with at least 2 years of relevant experience, OR
- A diploma or equivalent professional qualification with at least 3 years of relevant experience, OR
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health and Social Care field, including 3 years of experience in equality-related work.
- Specialised Experience:
- Leading work streams in equality legislation application or stakeholder consultation processes.
- Developing and delivering training and presentations.
- Producing management reports with quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Working with diverse groups and establishing strong working relationships.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 and related processes.
- Additional Requirements:
- A full driving license with a maximum of 3 penalty points, or access to transport to meet the post requirements.
