Job description

Are you an experienced finance leader ready to support a high-growth organisation through a critical scale-up phase? This is an exciting opportunity to join as Interim CFO, ensuring continuity and financial leadership while partnering with the incoming permanent CFO during a planned transition.

What's in it for you?

  • Competitive day rate or contract arrangement
  • Fractional engagement - 3 days per week
  • Approx. 3-month assignment, starting ASAP
  • Opportunity to shape a finance function in a rapidly scaling, technology-driven organisation
  • Work alongside a collaborative executive team during a pivotal growth period

About the organisation

This role sits within a UK-based AI scale-up working with government, international, and critical-infrastructure clients.

The organisation is:

  • Post-Series A, now entering a rapid build-out and operational maturity phase
  • Scaling from ~60 headcount
  • Establishing and strengthening core functions across finance, operations, and governance

The Interim CFO will play a key role in providing financial stability, driving discipline, and preparing for a handover in late Q1.

About you

  • Proven scale-up finance leader with experience across Series A-C
  • Background in deep tech, AI, or other regulated sectors (preferred)
  • Strong technical capability in:
    • Cashflow management and forecasting
    • Board reporting and investor readiness
    • Monthly close discipline and budgeting cadence
  • Experienced in tightening controls, implementing financial processes, and supporting system/tooling improvements
  • Able to support audit preparation and uplift finance operations
  • Collaborative, pragmatic and able to land quickly and hand over cleanly to the permanent CFO

What you'll do

  • Lead short-term financial management and provide stability during the transition
  • Manage cashflow, forecasting, budgeting, and monthly close
  • Deliver clear, timely reports for the board and investors
  • Strengthen financial controls, cost discipline, and operational processes
  • Support audit preparation and improvements to finance tooling and systems
  • Work closely with the executive team and prepare a structured, comprehensive handover to the incoming CFO
