As a member of the council's Corporate Management Team, contribute proactively to the collective leadership for the council, working collaboratively with Members, services across the council, partners and stakeholders, to deliver the council's objectives and priorities.

Work in a corporate and collaborative way with the Senior and Corporate Management Teams, Trade Unions and other senior managers across the council and work as part of the directorate and departmental Senior Leadership teams, to contribute to departmental priorities and initiatives. Ensure that the performance and development framework is effective for all staff.

Lead on and ensure the effective implementation of corporate initiatives and transformation programmes that cut across the whole or part of the council's activities. Act as an ambassador for the entire area by promoting a positive image and raising the profile of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. About you

  • Degree educated in relevant discipline (Business Management/ Communications/ HR)
  • 5 years experience senior management experience operating in large organisation
  • Previous responsibilities/experience in Leisure and Sport
  • Experience of managing large budgets

What you'll do

  • Be responsible for the direct line management of employees who report to the post holder, ensuring that matters relating to performance, attendance and discipline are addressed within agreed timescales and in accordance with Council Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in employee relations matters including undertaking investigations and chairing hearings relating to employment matters as required (e.g., capability, discipline, grievance) and make decisions regarding appropriate outcomes with support from HR and in compliance with the relevant legislation.
  • Focus on delivering better and continuously improving outcomes and targets for the borough and its residents through the development and delivery of strategic businesses planning, service improvement programmes and through effective business performance management.
  • Lead the effective financial management of capital and revenue budgets within approved levels including ensuring services operate robust monitoring, forecasting and corrective action supported by effective use of management information and data.
