Hygiene Engineer - Food Manufacturing

Craigavon | £40,000-£45,000 DOE | Monday-Friday (NIGHT SHIFT ONLY)


A leading food manufacturing business in Craigavon is seeking an experienced Hygiene Engineer to join their technical team. This role offers the chance to play a key part in maintaining high standards of equipment performance, food safety, and hygiene across a busy production facility.

The Hygiene Engineer will support the hygiene department in ensuring all equipment is cleaned, maintained, and ready for production. You will play a pivotal role in equipment set-up, preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with stringent industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead maintenance operations within the hygiene team, ensuring all machinery is operational and compliant before production begins.
  • Implement and oversee preventative maintenance schedules to maximise equipment efficiency.
  • Carry out inspections and ensure compliance with food safety regulations (BRC, HACCP, customer standards).
  • Work closely with hygiene, production, and quality teams to maintain smooth operations.
  • Take ownership of equipment breakdowns and repairs during the cleaning cycle.
  • Manage and mentor equipment technicians to ensure operational cover at all times.
  • Support and prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring audit-readiness at all times.
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and process improvements.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a maintenance role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical qualifications.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities in a busy environment.
  • IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within food manufacturing.
  • Relevant third-level qualification or apprenticeship in engineering/maintenance.
  • Safety-related qualification (IOSH / NEBOSH).
  • Experience in leading and developing a small team.
