The Opportunity
I'm currently working with a public-sector organisation to recruit a Grounds Maintenance Operative to support the upkeep of parks, open spaces and public areas. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with previous grounds or labouring experience who takes pride in maintaining outdoor environments to a high standard.
The Role
You will be part of an operational team responsible for maintaining green spaces and outdoor facilities across multiple sites. The role involves grass cutting, strimming, hedge maintenance and general grounds duties, ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently in line with service standards.
Key Duties
Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers
Strimming, edging and hedge cutting
General grounds and landscaping maintenance
Litter picking and upkeep of public areas
Assisting with planting, pruning and seasonal works
Setting up and maintaining sports pitches and outdoor facilities
Use of hand tools and small plant equipment
Loading/unloading materials and equipment
Carrying out basic safety checks on tools and machinery
Working across multiple sites as required
Adhering to all health & safety and environmental procedures
Supporting wider operational teams during busy periods
Essential Criteria
Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping or manual outdoor work
Ability to use grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers and strimmers
Good understanding of health & safety in an outdoor environment
Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions
Physically fit and able to carry out manual duties
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Desirable
PA1/PA6 spraying certificates
Experience operating ride-on mowers or similar machinery
Full driving licence
Experience working within a public-sector or facilities environment
