Job Summary ( 6 month contract)

The purpose of the Fit Testing Co-ordinator will be to plan, manage, develop and monitor the operational delivery of Face Fit testing ensuring that all testing is delivered to meet service need and is compliant with the Health & Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) legislation / guidance. The Coordinator will review service provision with a view to developing, implementing and establishing a sustainable service model.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist knowledge, advice and guidance on health & safety matters . They will support the Risk Manager, with the provision of this service on an organisational basis.

Key responsibilities

Fit Testing

  • Be responsible for the organisation and co-ordination of fit-testing programmes for all relevant masks, across multiple sites within the Trust, ensuring full compliance with the relevant HSENI legislation / guidance and Trust policies.
  • Work in partnership with operational managers to identify fit-testing priorities and develop and implement an action plan accordingly; to include resource requirements to meet service needs.
  • Be responsible for developing and maintaining a panel of Fit Testers to meet business need, including where necessary, recruiting additional testers, and identifying and providing necessary training/upskilling.
  • Draft and develop appropriate policies and operational procedures to support Fit Testing Services and review on an ongoing basis, identifying areas for improvement, and work with the Risk Manager to make appropriate revisions to enhance service.
  • Review service provision and develop proposals and recommendations for future proofing the service, working with the Risk Manager to propose and secure a sustainable fit-testing model.
  • Participate in both regional and local meetings in relation to the Trust's fit-testing strategy, operations and priorities including: supply chain, performance standards etc.
  • Be responsible for ordering and maintaining relevant mask stock, and all supplies needed to operate porta count machines and printers

Health and safety

  • To support the development of a healthy and safe working environment through the provision of competent health and safety advice, guidance and information to all levels of staff and relevant committees as required, in liaison with other professionals as appropriate.
  • To identify health and safety training requirements in liaison with the Health and Safety Manager.
  • To provide training on all health and safety matters to staff and to promote health and safety awareness through the design, delivery and implementation of appropriate training programmes. Ensure that health and safety training records are maintained. Liaise with external consultants in the provision of health and safety services/training programmes when required.
  • To assist with the development, review, promotion and implementation of the Trust's Health and Safety policy/guidance documents to promote a healthy and safe working environment in line with legal requirements and Trust policy.
  • To assist in the development, review and implementation of health and safety standards which measure the effectiveness of existing health and safety policies/guidance to ensure consistency and continual improvement throughout the organization.
  • To make submissions of all reportable incidents to the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) in line with the legal requirements of the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (NI) 1997 . Ensure that all RIDDOR reportable incidents are investigated and liaise as necessary with managers and staff to ensure appropriate remedial action is taken.

Essential Criteria

  • A degree and a recognised professional occupational health and safety qualification at Diploma level or above. OR A recognised professional health and safety qualification at Diploma level or above and a minimum of 3 years' experience of health and safety, working as a health and safety manager / advisor.
  • Working towards or achieved Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
  • Experience of developing, implementing and maintaining administrative systems in support of service delivery.
  • Experience in developing and effectively managing services/resources across multiple sites.
  • Have a full UK driving license
