The role supports the wider business growth agenda, by providing leadership and coaching to our accounting team and acts as a first point of contact in the business.

Initially a temporary role with the chance to be made permanent for the correct candidate.

The ideal candidate will:
Essential

  • Fully qualified Accountant (ACA / CIMA / ACCA)
  • 5+ years PQE in a broad financial controller or financial accounting role
  • Experience of producing Management Accounts / balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience of Managing a financial external audit
  • Experience of leading and developing a Team
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines
  • Experience of driving and implementing business and system process improvements
  • Experience of working within a fast paced environment
  • Driven / Self-motivated and confident
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages (Incl. Word / Excel / Power-point & Teams).
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management



Desirable

  • Logistics company experience
  • Experience working within a division of a wider group
  • Experience of working with Sage 200 accounting software
  • Experience of working with Mandata transport systems
  • Commercially and operationally astute

Responsibilities
As a Financial Controller you will:

  • A Manage the delivery of timely weekly and monthly financial reporting to group.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely production and delivery of weekly and monthly Accounts.
  • Development and delivery of variance analysis commentary.
  • Manage completion & delivery of year-end financial reporting in line with UK GAAP / IFRS.
  • Management and completion of the year end external audit.
  • Preparation of statutory accounts, ensuring appropriate regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the point of contact for group reporting, submission of both actuals, forecasts & budgets.
  • Maintain and develop compliance with group control policies and framework (GO Policy).
  • Development and delivery of Key Performance Indicator report.
  • Formally review all Balance Sheet reconciliations each month.
  • Own all banking and payments (incl. control) systems and processes.
  • Formally review the VAT, Tax, National Statistics and PSA returns ensuring that they are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Manage and develop a team of qualified and part qualified accountants.
  • Provide oversight and support to transactional finance team.
  • Proactively review systems processes and procedures, recommending and implementing. improvements to further improve speed / quality and costs.
  • Provide business partnering support to operations functions including forecasting and budgeting
