Job description

Our public sector client, a leading educational institution in Belfast, is seeking an experienced and motivated Estates Officer to join their Estates and Facilities team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and compliant operation of a large and dynamic campus environment.

As Estates Officer, you'll be responsible for the coordination of maintenance activities, contractor management, procurement, and the delivery of a high-quality facilities service that supports the organisation's strategic objectives.




Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the effective delivery of maintenance, repairs, and building services across the estate.

  • Coordinate and monitor the work of external contractors and internal maintenance teams.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation, building regulations, and approved codes of practice.

  • Manage procurement processes for facilities-related goods and services in line with public sector guidelines.

  • Support the development and monitoring of Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) and Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) software.

  • Maintain accurate records and reports to ensure audit readiness and compliance.

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure effective communication and service delivery.




Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in facilities or maintenance coordination.

  • Demonstrable experience of procurement within an estates or facilities environment.

  • Strong understanding of compliance requirements in building and facilities operations.

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification).

  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (NI) and relevant codes of practice.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and CAFM systems.

  • Excellent planning, prioritisation, and communication skills.




Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within an educational or public sector environment.

  • Familiarity with school-based finance or facilities systems (e.g. FMS).

  • Experience with Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS).

  • Knowledge or practical experience in Legionella management and control.




Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an AccessNI security check and must be suitable to work in an environment with children and young people.
