Job Description

VANRATH are delighted to be assisting a Local Public Sector organisation in their search for a Data Protection Officer on a temporary ongoing basis.

Salary
The salary for this role will be £42-£46k plus holiday pay and excellent benefits exclusive to VANRATH.

The Ideal Person
Applicants must have a minimum of a degree in a relevant subject e.g. Business, English, Law, Politics or Sociology.
AND
Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have three years' relevant experience in a role overseeing and leading data protection in an organisation
Candidates must be able to demonstrate three (or 5 in the absence of a degree) years' experience in the following areas:

  • An in-depth understanding and knowledge of current UK data protection requirements under the Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulation;
  • Ability to work effectively in a data protection role at a senior level;
  • Proven ability to work in partnership with a range of stakeholders to develop and implement strategies, policies or initiatives which deliver positive outcomes;
  • Supporting and advising Elected Members and other stakeholders within a partnership working framework;
  • Ability to influence persons at all levels of an organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to the Head of Corporate Services in the management and delivery of a high level data protection function within Council which embeds a culture of data protection by design throughout the organisation.
  • To act as the Data Protection Officer of Council with oversight of statutory responsibilities, direct advisory responsibility to Senior Management and fulfil the representative role with the regulator.
  • Lead and manage Council's Information Governance Policy and coordination of information governance across Council.
  • Manage the development and implementation of controls and management strategies to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability and relevant compliance of Council information and information systems in line with the Data Protection Act 2018/General Data Protection Regulation.
