What Does the Role Look Like?

As a Data Architect, you will lead the design, development, and maintenance of the data architecture solutions throughout the development lifecycle. This role is crucial for ensuring that data solutions are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with both local and group-wide architectural strategies, particularly in cloud migration.

You will collaborate closely with Group Architects, the Head of Data & Analytics, and UK technology leads to craft a data architecture roadmap that supports new technology platforms, advanced analytics, and AI initiatives. Responsibilities include guiding cross-functional teams, ensuring data quality, and implementing effective data management tools and practices. Additionally, you will communicate complex technical information to a broad range of stakeholders, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor.

Your Skills:

Essential:

  • Deep subject matter knowledge of data & analytics with demonstrable experience in developing architectures in big data, analytics, and data engineering platforms within a large organisation.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of current and evolving IT technologies, architectures, and delivery models.
  • Deep understanding of the current and evolving data landscape.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders, including those without a technical background, resulting in productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrable experience with multi-database environment development.
  • Proficient in developing effective data models for reporting and data warehousing purposes.
  • Experience of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Advanced ETL tool or solution development experience.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or Spark.
  • Knowledge of scheduling tools such as Airflow or Oozie.
  • 1+ years' experience with Hadoop.
  • 1+ years' experience with Python.
  • Using APIs to consume data.
  • Experience of People Management including performance management, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Retail Banking or Financial Services experience.
  • Experience of working within a Centre of Excellence model.
