Position Available: Data Analytics Engineering Manager

Location: Befast City Centre

Role Overview: As a vital member of the Data team, you will be responsible for spearheading data infrastructure projects and crafting proof-of-concept business solutions tailored for analytics and Data Science users. This role entails close collaboration with data scientists and analytic engineers, addressing specific needs and tactical solutions. From initial conception and prototyping to fully-fledged solutions, including overseeing medium-complexity projects, this position spans the entire spectrum of data engineering.

Team Dynamics: The current team consists of over 12 members, including interns and placement students. In this role, you will not only oversee and coordinate tasks for team members but also serve as their manager and primary point of contact for any arising issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with Data Science and business partners, leveraging subject matter expertise.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in implementing analytic solutions across various business units.
  • Manage, mentor, and inspire high-performing data analytics engineers.
  • Play a crucial role in developing outstanding data analytics engineers.
  • Assist in recruiting, developing, and retaining talented Data Analytics Engineers.
  • Participate in requirement development, breaking down complex business problems and documenting requirements.
  • Contribute to test plan development, test data preparation, and execution of functional tests.
  • Develop and deliver data infrastructure to support predictive modeling and analytics with minimal supervision.
  • Execute rapid development of new data and analytic work tracks with agile iteration.
  • Utilize agile data analysis, leveraging proficiency in various programming languages and technologies.
  • Provide input on the development of enterprise data assets and information platforms for data exploration.
  • Conduct data exploration, engineering, testing, and implementation.
  • Participate in the development of new concepts and prototypes for data solutions.
  • Mentor team members and promote innovation and process improvement in a business technical environment.

Essential Criteria for Application:

  • All candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a related field, involving the development of sophisticated big data pipelines to support machine learning and advanced analytics in industry or postgraduate research.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching technical individuals.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of distributed computing and big data frameworks like Spark, Mesos, Hadoop, AWS, Scality, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, or C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with structured relational databases and query writing (e.g., SQL).
  • Practical expertise in applying machine learning and statistical techniques to real-world challenges.
  • Competency in conducting data analytics and root cause analysis for business problem-solving and improvement.
  • Leadership and team management experience in a technical context.
