The Role

The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative criminal defence team, managing their own caseload while gaining significant exposure to advocacy, case preparation, and direct client representation. The work is varied, fast-paced, and offers excellent scope for professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients clearly and confidently at all stages of proceedings.
  • Preparing case files, statements, court documentation and briefs for counsel.
  • Attending client consultations, conferences with counsel, and meetings with experts.
  • Liaising with the PSNI, PPS, courts, barristers and other relevant parties.
  • Representing clients in court where appropriate, with advocacy opportunities aligned to experience level.
  • Working both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Solicitor in Northern Ireland (NQ or early PQE).
  • Demonstrable interest in criminal defence work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • Well-organised, able to manage a busy caseload and competing deadlines.
  • Professional, motivated, and capable of exercising sound judgement under pressure.
  • Comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a team.

What's on Offer

  • Supportive and collegiate working environment.
  • High-quality criminal defence work with early responsibility.
  • Mentoring and guidance from experienced practitioners.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement plus public holidays.
  • Ongoing CPD, training, and clear progression opportunities.
