Job description
Buyer - Construction
Client
An established independent construction business with a strong track record across the UK and Ireland is seeking a Construction Buyer to support the Commercial Manager across live projects. The company delivers construction, fit-out and facilities management services and is known for its practical, well-planned approach to procurement. This role offers real autonomy within a supported commercial structure, making it ideal for a Buyer who wants responsibility without being overstretched.
The Role
As Buyer, you will support the Commercial Manager by taking ownership of day-to-day construction procurement activities, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring materials and services are procured efficiently and cost-effectively. You will have autonomy over purchasing decisions, with guidance and commercial support available when required. A construction buying background is essential for this role.
The Ideal Person
You will have proven experience in a Buyer or Assistant Buyer role within the construction sector, with a solid understanding of construction materials, suppliers and lead times. You will be organised, commercially aware, and comfortable managing your own workload while working closely with commercial and site teams. A proactive, practical approach and a full driving licence are required.
Responsibilities
Source and procure construction materials and services in line with project requirements and budgets, place and manage purchase orders, track deliveries and resolve supply issues, maintain and develop supplier relationships, support cost control through price comparisons and market awareness, liaise with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and site teams to align procurement with programme needs, and maintain accurate procurement records in line with company procedures.
Remuneration
c.£45,000 per annum plus a strong benefits package.
