VANRATH are recruiting a Building Surveyor to work within the Renewables and Insurance Repairs Department for a leading Main Contractor based in Magherafelt, Northern Ireland.

Client
Our client is a well-respected Main Contractor that work in multiple sectors such as education, healthcare, commercial, retail, industrial, pharmaceutical, leisure, community and regeneration. The business carry out new build, refurbishment and maintenance projects across these sectors.

The business also has a Renewables and Insurance Repairs Department and within this part of the business an excellent opportunity for a Building Surveyor has arisen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake site inspections, record information, sketch, measure and photograph site
  • Determine condition of buildings, identifying and analysing defects
  • Prepare pricing documents including quantities for the purpose of estimating or tendering
  • Review Bills of Quantities, prepare rates, allocate sub-contract/supplier packages, market engagement to secure sub-contract/supplier quotations to develop tender proposals for a range of procurement routes
  • Identify key risks and opportunities ensuring that they are effectively queried where appropriate at tender stage to gain as much clarity as possible
  • Prepare estimates, budget costs, tenders, negotiate and agree tender packages when required
  • Interpret and measure tender drawings
  • Undertake cost analysis
  • Procure materials, services, labour, equipment etc.
  • Control costs during construction process
  • Liaise with sub-contractors, agreeing work plan and conditions
  • Prepare risk assessments, method statements, health and safety plans, health and safety files and O&M manuals
  • Be asbestos aware at all times and notify client if possibility of asbestos containing material
  • Vet & assess prospective service partners (consultants, suppliers and sub-contractors) and ensure all relevant details are submitted at appropriate time
  • Project manage site works
  • Organise and liaise with the entire project team
  • Plan and organise work efficiently to meet project deadlines
  • Provide contract administration services including preparing and submitting variations
  • Check and sign off supplier and sub-contractor invoices
  • Value interim and completed work and arrange payments
  • Value change, assess claims and agree final accounts
  • Prepare regular costing reports
  • Highlight cost anomalies
  • Prepare and submit invoices to client
  • Liaise with clients and their representatives, including attending regular meetings and keeping them informed of progress
  • Work as part of a team yet have autonomy to deal with delegated tasks


The Ideal Person:

  • Degree or HND Qualified
  • Minimum 1 years' experience as a Building Surveyor
  • Good communicator
  • Problem solver
  • Strong negotiator
  • Confident dealing with clients, sub-contractors and site teams
  • Good IT skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage deadlines
  • Great commercial skills and awareness
  • Track record working in the Renewable Energy and / or Insurance Repair sectors is advantageous
  • Full UK Driving License
