Bookkeeper / Accounts Preparation

Job Description


VANRATH are working with a well-established and forward-thinking accountancy firm in Belfast to recruit a Bookkeeper / Accounts Preparation Senior. This role sits within a collaborative, client-focused team and offers the chance to work with a wide range of businesses across sectors.
You'll play a key role in supporting clients with their cloud-based systems, assisting in the production of management accounts, and preparing financial information that underpins strong advisory relationships. The role offers real variety, professional support, and clear development opportunities.


What you'll be doing:

  • Maintaining accurate financial records, including AP/AR and bank reconciliations
  • Preparing and posting monthly payroll journals and month-end adjustments (e.g. accruals & prepayments)
  • Assisting clients with their cloud accounting systems - mainly Xero and QuickBooks
  • Preparing monthly management accounts, including full balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting VAT return compilation and MTD compliance
  • Assisting the wider team with ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Analysing time spent on jobs and supporting with fee drafts

What you'll need:

  • A bookkeeping qualification or part-qualified IATI (or equivalent)
  • Experience in a practice or professional services setting
  • Strong knowledge of core bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Confident using Xero, QuickBooks and relevant add-ons (Dext, Hubdoc, etc.)
  • Proficient in Excel - able to use pivot tables, lookups and filters
  • Strong communication skills - client-facing and collaborative
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple deadlines
