Biomedical Scientist Advanced Microbiology (HSCNI - Band 7)



VANRATH are delighted to be working closely with one of Northern Ireland's leading public sector bodies, where the successful postholder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient day to day running of a number of sections within Microbiology utilising the resources available.



The successful post-holder will work closely with the Laboratory Service Managers and Clinical Leads on day-to-day matters.

Salary Band 7 - HSCNI Bandings (£40K) + Holiday Pay + Pension + Discounted Benefits. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Participation in CPD.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in microbiology level.
  • Must hold an MSc Biomedical Science; or an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma:

OR

  • be a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science or equivalent.



Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate laboratory investigations, interpretation, resolution, documentation and reporting of results.
  • Be responsible for writing and the regular review of standard operating procedures (SOP's) in line with UKAS requirements.
  • Participate in any Microbiology related validation/verification projects.
  • Ensure that all routine maintenance procedures relevant to the equipment in the section are followed.
  • Ensure that all equipment maintenance records are kept up to date and any equipment failures are managed appropriately in a timely fashion.
  • Assist the Microbiology operational manager in the production of key performance indicators.
  • Participate in the supervision and training of other grades of staff.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and operation of agreed policies with particular reference to Health and Safety, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and Fire Safety Regulations.
  • Co-ordinate the work of the laboratory so that staff, reagents and equipment are utilised efficiently.
  • Maintain levels of supplies appropriate to the laboratory to ensure a continuity of service.
  • Monitor the performance of all reagents and techniques/methodologies use the laboratory.
  • Deputise as required for the Line Manager and provide cover for colleagues of a similar grade.
  • Participate in Continuing Professional Development and continually update knowledge in current and emerging technologies.


Note: Participate as required in a 24-hour service which will include extended working day, weekend and public holidays as part of the conditioned 37.5 hours per week. There may also be a requirement for overnight work as part of the conditioned 37.5 hours per week.
