Associate Lecturer in Barbering (Part-Time)
Location: Downpatrick or Lisburn
Hours: 18 hours per week (0.5 FTE)
Salary: £32,600 per annum FTE
Contract: Permanent
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for two part-time Associate Lecturers in Barbering to join a dynamic teaching team within the School of Arts & Sport. The post holders will deliver and promote training across a range of programmes leading to qualifications up to Level 5 and contribute to future course development within the College.
The successful applicants will liaise closely with industry partners to ensure training reflects current sector needs, fulfil class tutor responsibilities, and support student learning and pastoral development. The roles will also include developing ILT resources, participating in course reviews, quality assurance activities, and assisting in marketing, recruitment, and course coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and promote teaching on a range of Barbering programmes (up to Level 5).
- Liaise with industry to align courses with sector requirements.
- Fulfil class tutor responsibilities, including administrative and pastoral duties.
- Develop teaching and learning resources using ILT.
- Contribute to quality assurance and evaluation in line with awarding body standards.
- Participate in team meetings, marketing events, and course coordination.
- Support educational visits, student competitions, and work-based learning activities.
- Engage in course development and commercial salon initiatives.
Essential Criteria
- GCSE English (Grade A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Communication; and GCSE Maths (Grade A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or NICATS Access Maths Modules.
- Level 5 or above qualification in Hair and Beauty Management (QCF/NQF) and at least three years' relevant industrial, professional, or business experience.
- Level 3 qualification in Barbering.
- Minimum of two years' experience working in the Barbering industry.
- Recognised Assessor Award or willingness to obtain within one year of appointment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong administrative, planning, and organisational skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
Desirable Criteria
- Recognised Verifier Award (V1 / Level 4 Assuring the Quality of Assessment).
