A leading public sector employer based in Belfast are recruiting a Finance Officer to join their team on an initial temporary contract for 4 months, with potential for extension.

Client

A leading Public Sector organisation is currently recruiting a Finance Officer to join their established team for an initial 4 month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an employer who provide an essential service to the local community.

The postholder will be responsible for producing, monitoring and maintaining invoicing and payment processing systems and controls, along with managing staff within the team. Some of the key responsibilities are listed below.

Responsibilities

Assist with the day to day functions within the Finance Directorate.

  • Assisting the Finance Officer by operating within financial guidelines.
  • Management responsibility for the Finance Assistant, ensuring that appropriate systems, processes, policies, procedures and practices to meet the needs of the organisation are implemented.
  • Maintenance of relevant financial control systems and functions, suggesting improvements and efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Assisting in the administration of procurement exercises, associated registers and files, etc. including administration of eTendersNI.
  • Responsibility for completion of corporate, and Programme payment runs, on a weekly basis, including associated administration tasks.
  • Completion of month end closure to include month end reconciliation work.
  • Assist in completion of month end Management Accounts file for review by Finance Officer.
  • Assisting the Finance Officer in the preparation of year end accounts, including associated reconciliation and analytical work.
  • Assisting the Finance Officer in the Collation of information for internal and external audit during audit fieldwork.

The Ideal Person

Essential Criteria

  1. A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above, which must include English Language and Mathematics.
  1. Qualified as an accounting technician or part-qualified accountant with 1 years' experience in each of the following;
  1. a) Maintaining financial systems and controls.
  2. b) Preparation and maintenance of a nominal ledger including journal entries.
  3. c) Assisting in the process of procurement of goods and services.
  4. d) Complex reconciliation work contributing to month end closure and management reporting.

OR

A minimum of 2 years' experience (without accounts technician qualification) of working in a finance function with experience in each of the following areas:

  1. a) Maintaining financial systems and controls.
  2. b) Preparation and maintenance of a nominal ledger including journal entries.
  3. c) Assisting in the process of procurement of goods and services.
  4. d) Complex reconciliation work contributing to month end closure and management reporting.

3. A minimum of 1 years' experience using a financial accounting system within a finance function.

4. Competence in the use of Microsoft Office in particular Excel.
