Assistant Director of Finance (Charity/Belfast)

VANRATH are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading Charity to recruit an Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Planning& Performance) to take on a key role within the organisation and sit as part of the Leadership Team.

Reporting to the Group Finance Director they key purpose of the role is to lead a the finance team in playing in key role in driving the Financial Performance of the Group by working closely with the Business, providing Key Financial Information & Insights and providing Commercial Finance Leadership, Support & Challenge.

This is an Interim role for 6-12 months with a view to being made permanent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Key member of the FLT providing direction to the Finance Team, build a high performing Team, promote a culture of One Team and deliver a joined-up, first class service to the business

  • Manage, develop, motivate and support the people within the Financial Planning & Performance team

  • Provide Commercial Finance Leadership, Support & Challenge across key stakeholders of the Organisation

  • Contribute to the development of Strategic Financials for the Group, working closely with the Group Finance Director

  • Help manage the Financial Performance of the Group against Targets by ensuring Key Financial Risks & Opportunities are identified and appropriate action plans are in place

  • Work closely with key stakeholders across the organisation to help ensure the financials are joined-up with and owned by the Business

  • Manage the Budget and Forecasting initiatives (including reporting) across the organisation to set stretching and achievable Targets to deliver growth

  • Manage Cashflow by providing Cashflow Forecasts over appropriate timeframes

  • Provide financial support and challenge around investments / business cases, including pricing, retention of existing business and new business opportunities

  • Lead the timely & accurate production of Financial MI, including KPIs, key findings and insights to help manage the financial performance of the organisation

  • Lead delivery of the relevant financial reporting to Commissioners and support the external audit through provision of analysis as appropriate.

  • As a key user of the Finance systems, identify opportunities to improve how the Finance systems could be used (existing & new) within and outside of Finance

  • Identify and implement improvements to improve the efficiency & effectiveness of key processes within the Financial Planning & Performance Team

  • Support the Finance Director as appropriate

The Person:

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) ideally with a minimum of 3 years PQE and strong technical accounting experience

  • Successfully leading, developing and supporting people and building high performing teams

  • Experience in producing, analysing & presenting financial information to drive good financial performance

  • Proven experience of budget preparation and consolidation, monitoring, and financial forecasting.

  • Proven track record of working with diverse stakeholders to deliver results

  • Production, analysis and presentation of key financial information

  • Strong ICT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel (for financial modelling & analysis) and working with financial systems
