Assistant Accountant - part-time (2-3 days/week) with flexibility

We're partnering with a leading organisation to hire a part-time Assistant Accountant. This sole-charge role gives you day-to-day ownership of the finance cycle-covering bookkeeping, payroll support, reconciliations and month-end working closely with senior finance. Flexible scheduling across 2-3 days per week.

What's in it for you?

  • Part-time, 2-3 days/week with genuine flexibility on days and hours
  • Supportive leadership and scope to broaden responsibilities over time
  • Competitive salary and benefits

About your next employer

A respected, growth-focused organisation with a busy operational calendar and strong financial governance. You'll join a small, professional team that values accuracy, momentum and continuous improvement-acting as the sole Assistant Accountant for day-to-day activity.

About you

  • Solid experience across AP/AR, bank postings/reconciliations, and month-end journals
  • Comfortable taking accounts to Trial Balance and producing tidy schedules
  • Confident with Excel and modern accounting software (e.g., Xero/Sage/NetSuite)
  • Good grasp of VAT treatment; payroll exposure welcome
  • Organised, detail-driven, and able to work independently while communicating clearly

What you'll do

  • Run the purchase ledger (coding, approvals, supplier queries) and sales ledger (invoicing, cash allocations)
  • Post bank transactions and complete bank/cash & balance-sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare prepayments, accruals and other journals; assist month-end close to TB
  • Ensure accurate VAT coding and support return preparation
  • Support payroll processing (data collation, checks, journals) and maintain compliant records
  • Produce aged creditor/debtor reports and provide clear commentary on variances
  • Maintain tidy documentation and contribute to process improvements
