VANRATH are delighted to be assisting our client, a large and well-known Public Sector Organisation with the recruitment of an Accessibility & Inclusion Officer to join their team based in Antrim.

This is an urgent requirement offering an immediate start date.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies to meet equality and disability legislation and promote accessibility and inclusion.
  • Lead the organisation's Equality Scheme, Equality Action Plan, and Disability Action Plan, including monitoring and reporting.
  • Liaise with equality bodies and representative organisations.
  • Deliver training and guidance on equality, diversity, and accessibility.
  • Oversee Equality Impact Assessments and Disability Impact Assessments.
  • Manage the Dual Language Signage Policy.
  • Benchmark progress with other councils and participate in equality networks.
  • Identify and support funding opportunities for accessibility and inclusion.
  • Conduct accessibility audits and monitor action plans.
  • Provide guidance on accessible facilities, services, and communications.
  • Engage with service users for feedback on Council services.
  • Maintain awareness of best practice and legislative changes.
  • Manage equality and diversity budgets.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant third level qualification or at least 3 years' broad relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years' work in an inclusion and accessibility role, with understanding of legislation and statutory duties.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, elected members, managers, and colleagues.
  • Strong research and report writing skills.
  • Ability to deliver training.
  • Capable of designing practical solutions to policy challenges.
  • Understanding of current local government policy and legislation in Northern Ireland in relation to Section 75.
  • Full current driving licence or access to suitable transport if a disability prevents driving.
  • Competent in using Windows and Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working across a variety of services.
  • Experience dealing with elected representatives, shareholders, board members, and the general public.
  • Experience of dual language.
