VANRATH IT are the preferred supplier for some of the most exciting and prominent businesses in Northern Ireland. Phil Gamble, one of our senior consultants, has recently placed two UX Developers in one of the most exciting new Foreign Direct Investors in the province.

We took some time to touch base with these successful candidates, to find out more about the nature of their roles, what an average day looks like and what those considering a career in the position should be mindful of.

Enjoy the full interview below.

Q What was the initial attraction to the company and what led you to apply?

AI was attracted by the strong management with a proven record for developing high quality products and developing their team. I was looking for a place where I could use the latest technology to build exciting new products and I found that here!

Q How does this company differ from other companies you have worked for?

A The competition in this space demands an incredible level of attention to detail, and we work directly with our customer base to target their specific needs. This relationship gives us confidence in the products we develop and the value of even the smallest features, and it is satisfying to know we are meeting real needs for people in their daily work.

Q Is there a typical day?

A A typical day will involve working on tickets agreed as part of the sprint content. Daily tasks will also include reviewing other team member’s code, collaborating with other teams and working with QA to resolve issues.

Q What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?

A Working in UX there’s an immediacy to the work that other roles don’t get to experience. If I complete a ticket it’s immediately visible to anyone using the solution, a feeling that can’t be recreated to the same degree when working on the back-end of a product.

Q What is the company culture?

A Our culture is one of hard work and genuine investment in the products we build. Everyone is expected to contribute their best regardless of their seniority, and members of our team take ownership of issues and personally drive them through to completion. We work in a highly competitive space and therefore need to be proactive in our approach to developing products. It is challenging and demanding, but it’s a company that recognizes and rewards talent, commitment and effort!

Q What do you think the company are looking for in a candidate?

A Excellent technical experience, effective collaboration and communication skills, and passion for satisfying customers. We have a small team that works closely together and we are looking for someone who can add value to our company both with the quality of their work and their friendly personality.
