Education Welfare Officer - Belfast - Public Sector

Job Description

VANRATH are delighted to be assisting our client, a large Public Sector Organisation with the recruitmentof an Education Welfare Officer to join their team based in Belfast.

This is a Full-Time Monday - Friday hybrid working position. 36 hours per week.

Salary

£27,000 - £32,000 per annum, plus benefits.

Responsibilities

  • To respond appropriately to identified pupil/family need.
  • To provide relevant information to children and their families to enable them to make informed choices in accessing education suitable to age, aptitude, and ability.
  • To appropriately communicate and engage with children, young people, and their families to promote education by regular attendance at school or otherwise.
  • To collaborate with and make referrals as appropriate to other relevant agencies and/or departments.
  • To maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with education welfare service policy and procedures.
  • To establish, develop and implement a variety of appropriate intervention strategies for pupils and families to address attendance, behaviour, health, and welfare issues in conjunction with external agencies/or services.
  • To be conversant with the regulations governing the employment of children of compulsory school age.
  • To advise employers, pupils, parents and schools of relevant regulations in order to promote the protection of children and young people from abuse or exploitation.
  • Support expelled children and young people. Contribute to the monitoring of progress during expulsion or alternative provision. Assist in planning the reintegration process. Support children and young people during reintegration process.
  • To provide specific training and support on agreed identified areas of work.
  • Contribute to the protection of children and young people from abuse
  • Work in partnership with principals and teaching staff in the identification of attendance and welfare issues in designated schools.

Essential Criteria:

  • Must have access to a suitable vehicle to be able to carry out the mobility requirements of the post or have access to transport to carry out the mobility requirements.
  • Hold a professional social work qualification.
  • Be registered or provide evidence of their application to register with NISCC.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Have experience of working in an educational setting.
  • Have experience of working with young people /families in a caring capacity.
