Laboratory Assistant

VANRATH are delighted to be recruiting an experienced lab assistant to support our major scientific public sector client in their upcoming bacteriology research projects.

The role will initially run for at least 3 months, with a high chance of extension and progression routes for the right candidate. This is ideal experience for a science graduate.

Full time, 37 hours a week Mon - Fri

Salary

£19,500 + holiday pay + pension

The Ideal Person

- Scientific degree

- Experience having worked in a lab

- Great Microsoft Office knowledge (Excel)

- Ability to work flexible hours

- Experience with recording and compiling scientific data

The Role

  • Collection, sorting DSIB samples, recording any issues/non-conformance's, alerting the area Manager and supporting the area manager to log details of samples onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Ability to work as part of a team delivering diagnostic/ statutory/ research results within specific time schedule
  • Maintenance of general cleanliness within the main diagnostic laboratories - Parasitology, Biochemistry, Bacteriology and Serology. Disposal related lab wastes as appropriate.
  • Work to standards required by ISO17025. Associated duties relating to ISO accreditation, updating records, temperature monitoring accreditation duties include temperature monitoring, airflow monitoring update of spreadsheets etc. as per specific lab.
  • Maintenance of laboratory records. This involves working with Excel spreadsheets, scanning, filing and emailing paperwork, as well as calibration and maintenance of related lab equipment as required.
  • Ordering and collection of store items.
  • Stock taking of consumable items, monitoring usage of chemicals and consumables.
  • Acquiring knowledge of job related protocols and completion of the organisational mandatory training as required.
