VANRATH are recruiting an Estimator to work for a dynamic Main Contractor that work on a range of Building & Civil Engineering projects.

Remuneration:
c£55,000 to £65,000 + package

Our client is a leading, dynamic, reputable Main Contractor that work on a diverse range of projects across the Construction and Civil Engineering sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake estimates in accordance with company procedures
  • Identify opportunity and risk during tender process
  • Co-ordination of external and internal inputs for tender preparation
  • Liaise with business unit to agree methodology and principles
  • Maintain register of key assumptions within estimate
  • Maintain tender estimate file
  • Provide indicative pricing support for business development
  • Meeting tender deadlines
  • Production of tender documents and completion of clients' documentation for submittal
  • Upkeep of costs, estimating and pricing information necessary for the preparation of tenders
  • Present basis of estimate and key assumptions
  • Liaise with Project Managers to analyse labour requirements for each project and pull together associated costs for review
  • Prepare estimating "adjudication pack"
  • Maintain notes of adjudication meetings
  • Close out actions and monitor customer negotiations, seeking amended authority as required
  • On successful award, summarising overall bid and handing over to Projects, including continuing involvement as necessary during contract execution
  • On successful award, undertake cost coding analysis of contract sum to establish budgets, resource allocations, cash flows
  • On successful award, assist buying department in the preparation on bulk materials enquiries i.e. establish overall quantities of various materials
  • Prepare estimating "handover packs"
  • Maintain notes of handover meeting
  • Provide on-going support to site teams relating to estimate and key assumptions
  • Obtain feedback from site teams on estimating adequacy and current costs
  • To comply with all Health and Safety responsibilities commensurate with the role, as outlined in the Health and Safety policy
  • Any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned from time to time



The Ideal Person:

  • HNC or above (or equivalent qualification) with 5 year estimating experience
  • Experience in residential, commercial and civil engineering works (piling, drainage, RC works, groundworks) are a must
  • Experience/knowledge of optimal build sequences / construction methods / resource levels for civils works, reinforced concrete works, high rise construction and residential housing
  • Ability to prepare Bill of Quantities using estimating software
  • Experience in estimating construction costs / rates from first principals
  • Experience in assembly and issue of relevant tender documentation to sub-contractors and suppliers to need tight deadlines
  • Proven track record working on tenders ranging up to £50m
  • Numerate and familiar with estimating software (Buildsoft / Cubit preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with construction related data management and purchasing software applications
  • Confident dealing with customers at a senior level
  • Able to ensure all tender submissions are both feasible and profitable
