VANRATH are delighted to be exclusively recruiting for a Chief Financial Officer for a leading, Not-for-profit organisation in the Greater Belfast area. Our client are central to the community in Northern Ireland and this is a new role that will lead the financial direction and growth plans as never before. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key position within the broader management structures of the organisation and should provide an appealing challenge for a talented finance leader keen to put their efforts toward a great cause.

The Role

Reporting to the Board, the CFO is responsible for all matters concerned with the financial governance and reporting functions and plays a key role in the operational development of the financial administration and support functions of the organisation. This is both a strategic and 'hands on' role, where you will oversee a small team consisting of an Accountant and one full time and one part time Finance Officer whilst reporting the board re financial planning.

Duties:

The CFO will have responsibility for ensuring:

  • An effective financial system is in operation and implementation of a financial strategy to support the objectives of the SMT
  • An effective system of reporting to the Governance Board and sub committees
  • Assistance with Corporate Governance across the organisation and compliance with charity regulations both in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland
  • Development, oversight and operation of systems and processes to ensure the sound financial governance of all areas
  • Close liaison with committee chairs and treasurers, including attendance at external meetings where required.
  • Direct oversight of all major sources of revenue and expenditure and of all major assets
  • Assist in the development of an internal audit function to ensure continued compliance of all parties within the organisation with statutory requirements of both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, including those of the Charity regulatory authorities in both jurisdictions, and with the internal rules, regulations and procedures
  • The setting up and oversight of a program to ensure regular audit/independent examinations of the accounts of individual societies and circuits
  • Preparation and oversight of budgets and financial plans wherever required with the development of budgets
  • Regular review and updating of all procedures and processes related to the financial governance and the preparation of reports on same where required
  • Involvement in the strategic planning process on all matters pertaining to financial governance.
  • Preparation and reporting of regular financial reports for submission to the Governance Board and sub committees
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and the annual consolidated financial statements
  • Oversight, coordination and direct involvement in the preparation of the financial statements of the various departments, committees and associated bodies
  • Oversight, coordination and direct involvement in the financial accounting processing and payment of payroll and treasury management

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified accountant (member of a one of the established accountancy bodies in the UK or the Republic of Ireland)
  • Three years' experience in a senior role in industry, private practice or within the charitable sector. Experience in the preparation of consolidated financial statements
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining financial procedures and rolling out software packages
  • Experience of managing a process of change and adaptation
  • Excellent organisational skills including planning, setting priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills; verbal, written and oral
  • Excellent interpersonal skills Able to work on own initiative
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Concern for excellence and attention to detail
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to consider the "big picture" where overall financial governance of dispersed organisations are involved
