Assistant Accountant

VANRATH is pleased to be recruiting for an Assistant Accountant for a well-known organisation based in the heart of Belfast. The Role
The successful candidate will assist the site accountant in all management accounts and month end procedures.

  • Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts including accruals and prepayments.
  • Prepare Gift aid claims to HMRC.
  • Manage the direct debit system and prepare the monthly prepayment journal.
  • Processing and preparation of monthly payroll.Prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers.
  • Prepare accounting information for grant applications and claims.
  • Credit Control.
  • Purchase & sales ledger.
  • General ledger responsibilities on posting nominal journal entries.
  • Stock control & stock testing for the retail shop & café.
  • Maintain efficient and robust accounting systems and controlsDirect staff in financial procedures and processing of accounts.
  • Support other members of the Finance Team in the analysis of information and ad hoc financial reporting.
  • As part of the Finance team ensure good housekeeping standards, safety and security standards.
  • Any other duties as requested by your Line Manager.



The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in a commercial setting and be proficient n Sage.

  • 5 years' experience within a commercial setting
  • Proficient in SAGE Line 50 Accounts & Sage 50 Payroll or equivalent payroll software
  • Experience in payroll preparation
  • Computer literate, with excellent experience of Microsoft Office with particularly experience in Excel Spreadsheets
  • Ability to use own initiative but also work well within a team
  • Strong commercial experience & excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills dealing with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills to forge close working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and external bodies.
  • The ability to work accurately under pressure to achieve deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasionally working public holidays, weekends and evenings.
