VANRATH are excited to be hiring an Environmental / Aquatic Scientist for a renowned public sector organisation to support a new project looking at the ecological effects of climate change on fish and fisheries of local loughs.

Based in Belfast, this role has great opportunities for progression for the right candidate.

Working hours are Full-Time Monday to Friday with opportunity for overtime as well as exciting fresh-water field work opportunities!

Salary / Benefits

£31,550 - £32,550 + Holiday Pay + Pension & Discount Benefits!

Ideal Person

- Degree in science-related subject (e.g. Science, Marine Science, Environmental Science)

- Working experience in scientific role

- Contribute to research projects as part of a team.

- Experience on-board boats is desirable - a physically fit individual who is able to undertake field work!

Responsibilities

Laboratory Work

* Preparing a literature review on the subject of this project.

* Coordinate the scientific sampling of biological specimens including fish and zebra mussels.
* Conduct laboratory work
* Produce technical reports on findings.

* Baseline survey to determine the range of a key invasive species

* Investigation of modelling approaches that will monitor the effects of increasing water temperature on fish.

Field work

* Participate in activities on-board small vessels in freshwater
* These activities will include but are not restricted to:
- manual handling, handling fish and other aquatic organisms, working some unsociable hours, working outside and collecting environmental samples.
